How Do You Secure a Motorcycle On a Trailer
Mar 3rd, 2009 by kenny
Do you want to haul you motorcycle in your trailer? There are a few things that you may want to get before you start to secure your motorcycle on a trailer. First, you need motorcycle trailer tie downs. Next, you want to get extension loop straps for the motorcycle. Last, you will need tie down hooks to connect your trailer tie downs to the trailer.
Prepare the Trailer - preparing the trailer involves three very important tasks. First, make sure you have your motorcycle trailer tie down hooks secure and connected to the trailer. Make sure the the tie down hooks are extended to there full length so that when you roll the motorcycle in you don't have to weave them around the motorcycle when you don't have much room to maneuver. Second, make sure that the trailer is level, that means not tilted up or down left or right. This will make it more difficult to get the motorcycle in the trailer and also make it more difficult to know if the motorcycle has been secured correctly. Now double check your pingel Wheel Chock to make sure it is properly installed.

Put the Motorcycle in the trailer - Once that is completed now you will want to start to wheel the motorcycle into the trailer. Align your ramp with the motorcycle stand. Don't come in at a angle to your motorcycle wheel chock. You will have the bike at an angle and you will have to either pick the bike up by hand in the trailer or back it out again and start all over. Either choice is a headache. Now that the ramp is lined up push the motorcycle directly straight into the motorcycle wheel chocks. Now, put down the kick stand and let the bike rest on the side of the kick stand.
Alright, you have the motorcycle in the trailer now start connection the motorcycle tie downs to the motorcycle tie down hooks on the floor of the trailer. Work from right to left. Take the right front tie down and tighten it to remove all the slack. Then work your way to the left front tie down and do the same. Go to the back of the motorcycle and do the same from right to left until both back tie downs are connected to the trailer. Make sure all the slack has been removed from each tie down. You should see the motorcycle start to vertically stand on it own and be off of its kick stand. This should be a steady standing position with the front wheel in the center of the motorcycle stand.
Test - Make sure the motorcycle does not rock sideways backward or forward as to much play may make the straps disconnect during travel and damage the bike. Your motorcycle should be ready to travel.
